Kahlert Village
University of Utah | Salt Lake City, UT
Kahlert Village is a Living-Learning residential urban center that represents innovation in its objectives and design. The village follows a cutting-edge model that puts student housing, dining, and educational spaces under one roof and organizes students within the building areas/wings by educational programs and interests—thereby maximizing collaboration and student success.
This state-of-the-art complex features four 5-story towers totaling more than 462,000 SF. Envision has provided comprehensive electrical engineering design and related services for the entire project.
Envision maximized the electrical design for the project utilizing a recent campus renewable-energy purchase that potentially will enable Kahlert Village to leverage its energy efficiency for a 48% offset in energy and a 72% reduction of its greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to innovative electrical engineering, lighting design was completed to efficiently meet the lighting challenges and needs of various spaces. Meeting energy codes and maximizing energy credits was accomplished through the exclusive use of LED fixtures throughout the building, as well as a mixture of manual and automated lighting controls, including vacancy sensors in the dorm rooms and in other common residential areas to provide energy cost savings.
