Carolyn & Kem Gardner Commons Building
University of Utah | Salt Lake City, UT
The 220,000 SF, $60 million Gardner Commons Building is the main undergraduate classroom building on the University of Utah campus. It is home to the largest college on campus, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
The Gardner Commons replaces the former Orson Spencer Hall (OSH). In addition to full service electrical engineering for design of the new building, Envision participated in the original redevelopment study to evaluate electrical engineering options for the renovation or rebuild of OSH given the site constraints and current challenges with the original OSH building. The old building was razed and Gardner Commons built on the site.
The Commons has 37 classrooms, collaborative and research spaces, two auditoriums, and faculty offices. It is home to 15 Departments and Institutes, including the Hinckley Institute of Politics, a consolidated center for Student Advising, University Welcome Center, and 150-seat café/study zone.
