Union Middle School
Canyons School District | Sandy, Utah
Envision worked as the electrical engineering consultant on the design team for the new and complete replacement of Union Middle School. The design achieved a technologically advanced school with innovative and energy-efficient design--all while being carefully and safely constructed adjacent to the existing school, which continued to be used and occupied by students, faculty, and the community.
As the electrical and lighting designers, we collaborated closely with the architects to maximize natural lighting and create energy-efficient lighting and power usage throughout the school. The school is designed as a configuration of connected wings or blocks separated by 60-foot courtyards and includes distinct building sections, which include four grade-specific academic wings, administration, performing arts, athletics, and a commons/dining area. Lighting design played an important role in creating bright, open learning spaces, as well as branding for the school's image and progressive design goals.
