Island View Elementary School

Davis School District | West Point, Utah

As the engineers to design the first Net-Zero Energy school in Utah, Envision continues to pioneer exceptionally sustainable, Net-Zero buildings. For the Island View Elementary School, a LEED Platinum prototype was utilized in the electrical design and included special consideration to light trespass, glare, energy usage, lighting controls, and photovoltaic roof panels.

Envision produced a Net-Zero electrical design resulting in an extremely efficient Energy Usage Index (EUI) of 17.4; compared to a typical building EUI of 50--the threshold for an Energy Star Efficient classification.

Island View Elementary School is a two-story, 86,300 SF, new elementary school with 32 classrooms, media center, and multi-purpose room. Our services included electrical engineering for power, fire alarm systems, intrusion detection and security systems, CCTV cameras, access control systems, and audiovisual and intercom systems. Lighting design was provided for interiors, as well as lighting for the building facade and parking lot.

To meet the high energy efficiency goals for the project, Envision designed extensive lighting controls and highly efficient LED lighting throughout. Photovoltaic (PV) panels were placed on the roof. In addition, window sunshades with integrated PV panels were specified to provide a dual function of reducing building heat while generating solar energy.
