Jordan Valley Cancer Center
Steward Healthcare (Formerly Iasis Healthcare) | West Jordan, Utah
This $8.5 million national design award-winning healthcare center is the first comprehensive cancer center located in the western Salt Lake Valley. As part of the Jordan Valley Medical Center Campus, the center is home to medical, surgical, and radiology specialists for cancers across the spectrum. The center has both an autonomous entry and a direct connection to the main hospital.
The focus-driven design team was centered on patient experience. As the team’s electrical engineering consultant, Envision successfully contributed to completing this goal with innovations in both energy efficiency and lighting design. For example, energy efficiency is realized with reflective roofing, ultra-high efficiency glazing, and daylighting wholly supplemented by LED lighting and occupancy sensors. interior lighting design choices were entirely warm, relaxing, and comfortable vs. traditional, stark, clinical lighting options. In addition, since patients are often transported supine through hallways, lighting was placed on the peripheral edges of the ceilings; and all patient treatment and holding areas are daylit that do not require radiation shielding.
The project gained national recognition and earned the CARITAS Project’s Eighth Annual ‘Generative Space Award’ (2017). The CARITAS Project aims to transform healthcare delivery projects through strategies and programs that produce ‘generative’ environments. Generative space fulfills the purpose of the space, but in addition, provides an experience that is positive and re-generative for the people it serves.
