Downtown SLC Liquor and Wine Store
Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management | Salt Lake City, Utah
The Salt Lake City Downtown Liquor and Wine Store represents a progressive direction for Utah state-owned and operated liquor stores to enhance and modernize the customer experience. As the electrical engineering consultant on the award-winning design team, Envision played an important role in electrical engineering and lighting design for the new retail store.
The beautiful two-story, 15,000 SF glass-front building provides an urban, upscale shopping experience featuring an open plan, spacious sales floors, daylighting, and dropped cloud ceiling fixtures made of natural wood. Innovation in the lighting and electrical systems included detailed plans to keep electrical wires and components hidden within the exposed cloud fixtures and up lighting. Recessed lights were designed in a starlit pattern spanning the ceiling to create a bright inviting retail space. With aesthetics and security as top design objectives, Envision provided detailed photometric calculations to measure and provide the desired level of light distribution for multiple areas in the building. High-efficiency LED lighting and controls with occupancy sensors were utilized throughout the store. In addition, daylighting controls were implemented for additional efficiency to adjust light levels throughout the day based on natural light entering the building through the large glass storefronts.
Envision also provided complete electrical engineering plans including the design of a comprehensive security system, fire alarms, telecommunications, and audiovisual equipment systems. The project was successfully designed to meet Utah State High-Performance Building Standards.
